FSGBR Programs

Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge counsels and strengthens individuals and families improving their quality of life since 1955. Programs are provided to more than 10,000 families and individuals each year.

The Child and Family Counseling Center provides clinical services to children, individuals and families who need help in finding solutions to a wide range of emotional, behavioral and relationship problems. We have trained experts in alcohol/ drug abuse issues, parenting issues and family conflict/ violence issues. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale without excluding anyone due to income.

Domestic Abuse Intervention Groups provide 26 weeks of counseling to perpetrators of violence by offering education, coping skills and support to help prevent recidivism of offense.

Family Safe Haven provides counseling and emergency financial assistance to protect and serve survivors of domestic violence.

Ryan White Part A Program- Care Coordination, resources and programs that enhance health and well-being. This program assists with emergency financial assistance, transportation, utilities, medication and other supportive services.

HIV Women & Children Program - Assist clients to access services, resources and programs that enhance health and well-being. Services include: medical case management, support groups, counseling, health/treatment education, transportation, and emergency financial assistance.

HIV, Counseling, Testing, Referral & Linkage to Care- combines HIV education, counseling, testing and referral services aimed at prevention, early identification of the HIV infection and linkage to medical care.

ViiV Rural Initiative – Expands HIV Prevention and Education to rural parishes targeting high risk, underserved individuals. This project increases HIV testing, counseling, and referral services in areas where services are limited.

PharmacyCare Pharmacy conveniently located inside the Family Service office location offers specialty packaged medication and free delivery.

Supervised Visitation Program serves the needs of families who are directed by Family Court to make arrangements for visits between noncustodial parents and their children.

The Parenting Center promotes healthy family development by providing ongoing workshops, consultations and classes to help parents increase their knowledge, skills and decision making in the important role of effective parenting. The program offers parenting classes and professional workshops for parents, teachers and community groups focused on child development, strategies for effective parenting and a variety of classes that teach proactive methods to promote healthy social emotional growth in children.

HIV Care Coordination

aids-ribbon.jpgThe HIV/AIDS Care Coordination and Women & Children’s Program is committed to assisting HIV/AIDS clients in accessing services and programs to further their well - being. Services are offered to clients in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, Ascension, Point Coupee, and East and West Feliciana parishes.  The following programs are available to eligible HIV positive clients.



Ryan White CARE ACT Title II HIV/AIDS
Services for Men and Women

Care Coordination - service that links clients to health care and psycho-social assistance. Care coordination includes structured access to appropriate levels of medical and support services, insuring continuity of care and ongoing assessment of client.  

Rent/Mortgage or Utilities Payment Assistance – We can refer clients to another agency which can provide Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA). This short-term assistance (times a year or less per client year) that can assist with rent payment, mortgage payments or utilities.  We refer clients who need this assistance to the Office of Social Services.

Medication Assistance – Provides assistance in obtaining medications that are not on the Louisiana Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) of the Louisiana Public Hospital’s Drug Formulary. This program includes provisions for direct nutrition supplements.

Dental Assistance – designed to provide financial assistance for diagnostic, prophylactic, and therapeutic services.

Mental Health/Supportive Counseling-  Services include individual and family counseling,and support groups.

Referrals to housing programs - There are several housing programs for our clients.  The case manager refers appropriate clients to these housing programs run by community based organizations.

Transportation – offered in the form of bus cards, taxis, bus tickets, lift tickets and gas reimbursement.

Ryan White CARE Act Title IV HIV/AIDS
Services for Women, Children, Youth and Families

Family-centered care coordination for women, children, youth and families infected and/or affected with HIV/AIDS to help clients access services, resources and programs that enhance health and well being. Services include: case management, support groups, counseling, health/treatment education, transportation, child care, financial assistance toward rent, mortgage, utilities, medication, eye and dental care.

Case Management – service that links clients to health care and support services. Together, case managers, clients and medical professionals form a partnership to plan care that is comprehensive and meets the client’s needs.

Health/Treatment Education - Our staff nurse provides information and support to help understand medication, lab results, self-care and nutrition.

Support groups and counseling- supportive mental health and substance abuse counseling is offered to people with HIV and affected family members in an individual, family or support group setting.  Counseling may address coping with HIV, dealing with stress, life changes, self-esteem, loss, etc.   Support/education group meetings are held monthly for HIV positive teens (age 12-17).

Transportation – assistance can be provided to eligible clients in the form of bus cards, taxi service, gas reimbursement, lift tickets and bus tickets for out of town appointments.

Housing/Financial Assistance – Referrals to housing programs, referrals to HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS) and other emergency funds for rent/mortgage or utility payments; assistance to pay for medications, nutritional supplements or meet insurance co-payments; assistance to pay for dental and eye care.

The Parenting Center

What is the Parenting Center?  The Parenting Center promotes healthy family development by providing ongoing workshops to parents, teachers and community groups to increase their knowledge and skills in the areas of parenting, child development and child abuse prevention.

Groups for children, teens and tots focusing on social skills, school issues, family transitions, fostering creativity and coping with everyday stressors.

Parenting classes and professional workshops for parents, teachers and community groups focused on child development, strategies for effective parenting and a variety of classes that teach proactive methods that promote healthy social emotional growth in children.

What is the Child and Family Counseling Center? The Child and Family Counseling Center was the first agency program. Its mission is to provide clinical services to any child or family in the community at an affordable cost. Funded in part by the United Way, The Child and Family Counseling Center offers services to children including treatment and prevention of temper tantrums, oppositional behavior, school problems, anxiety, depression, as well as guidance in dealing with issues of grief or loss, social skills, and reactions to separation and divorce.

What types of counseling are offered? The Child and Family Counseling Center offers professional expertise in many areas: Solution focused Therapy, Depression, Marital Therapy, Separation and Divorce, Individual and Family Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Psychological Screening, Anger Management and ADHD.  The Child and Family Counseling Center continually provides training and education for its therapists by offering workshops featuring national and international trainers in the field of mental health and therapeutic services. All therapists are master level therapists and are required to have continuing education in an on going basis.

What services does The Child and Family Counseling Center offer to adults? The counseling staff of the Child and Family Counseling Center provides therapeutic services for adults dealing with depression, anxiety, family conflicts, marital/couple issues, step families, separation/divorce, job related stress, grief and loss, and mid life crisis issues.

We are open Monday - Thursday from from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

How do I access services? Appointments can be set with the Intake Secretary by calling (225) 924-0123.

Is there a fee? We accept Medicaid, Medicare and Private pay.  Per session fees are assessed on a sliding scale based on income, and may be paid by cash, Visa, MasterCard.
